StageCraft (Grades 11 or 12)
This course will examine theater from design and technical perspectives. Readings will include works by theorists such as Adolphe Appia, Gordon Craig, and Robert Edmond Jones. Studens will also be read classical and contemporary plays with an eye towards design. Practical consideration will include the terminology of technical theatre, methods of constructing and painting scenery and safety issues. There will be two types of projects-- design plansand renderings based on the play readings and executed scenic painting and prop construction.
This is a master class that builds on work done in 10th grade Architecture. The student who as studied design and technical drawing and has an interest in theater will be able to apply the concepts and techniques to theatrical design.
