Sculpting the Figure (Grades 11 or 12)
This studio course is based on figure studies. Drawing plays a modest part of the course work. Students will draw from nature and from the human figure. Course expectations include developing preliminary drawings that lead to finished works. Clay will be one of the sculpture mediums used, but students can also expect to work with other materials. These may include wire, plaster, plastic, fabric, stone, and mixed media. The work of historical and contemporary sculptors will serve to introduce each unit of study. Students can expect to work in small groups on some assignments. Course work includes one field trip to a museum, gallery, or an artists sculpture studio.
