Art of the 20th Century (Grades 11 or 12)
This course will survey significant developments in the visual arts that characterize the revolutionary changes of the twentieth century. We will trace the variety of new styles in painting, sculpture and architecture, which found their inspiration in the traditions of Europe and ultimately resulted in a bold new character of American Art. Through slide lectures, selected readings, field trips, videos, and guest lectures, students will examine the changing roll of the artist in modern society. Assignments will include short papers, three tests, and a end of semester project. No final exam wil be given. (Open to all 11th and 12th grade students who do not wish to continue wit their 10th grade art selection.
