Meaningful experiences with music are important to a child's education. When a child is engaged in music=making, his or her whole being is involved physical, emotional, intellectual and sensory.
Study of music in the Lower School includes:
- Experiencing a variety of songs, singing games, poetry and instrumental music
- Learning to listen in new ways
- Using a symbol system for recording musical ideas
- Understanding cultural and historical practices
- Involvement in creating and performing, alone and as part of a musical community
The music curriculum is developmental and sequential in design. Concepts and skills learned in earlier grade are developed and built upon in succeeding grades. Many of the skills learned in music connect with other areas of learning, but it is a child's involvement with the beauty and joy of creative expression that makes music unique.
